Detail
The past few months have been rolling tool-cart months it seems. I’ve got so many damn tool carts now that I don’t know what to do with them all. Let’s see how this husky stacks up to the competition.
First Impression
This thing is not light. It’s not as heavy as the Milwaukee version of the same cart but still takes two people to lift out of the back of a truck. Once you get the wheels on it you’re home free. The 21 gauge steel construction of this cart makes it very durable but not quite heavy-duty. The Milwaukee cart is 18 gauge steel and you can feel the difference in weight and rigidity between the two. For my purposes, the thickness of steel does not make a difference.
I do really like the wood top on this. The Milwaukee cart I have has a stainless steel top which feels a bit overkill most of the time. I like both, but it’s nice to work on something wood to compare to. It’s perfectly sized to fit a full-sized plan on top of, or just to store anything you might need to rest on it.
This cart has a power strip with usb ports in the side, which seems like par and course for all mobile tool carts these days. It’s such a massive benefit to have a cart that moves, yet also has power in it for you to charge batteries and phones, use stereos, and use corded tools from. The length of cord is more than ample as well. You don’t want too much cord (10 ft or more), or too little (3 ft or less), so the 5 ft this comes with is perfect.
It also comes with a handle and 4 inch casters that you have to assemble yourself. The benefit of the Milwaukee cart is that all of that came on the cart already assembled. Not a big deal, just something to take note of.
The drawers work as they should, and I like that they’re side-by-sides rather than full width drawers. I would like to see the larger lower drawers be cut in half, as I find large drawers like this really tend to waste more space than help. This is for all carts. I think keeping shallow drawers on the whole thing is really beneficial so most people don’t store large items in a bench like this.
The ball-bearings are rated for 100-lbs so these drawers are stout. The cart comes with little foam liners so you’re not just putting tools in and letting them slide around.
Pretty standard for most tool boxes and carts is a locking mechanism so your tools can’t be stolen. It comes with two keys, and works as it should. There’s nothing heavy duty about the lock, just a standard set up.
